Konami’s eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer is finally here and as you would expect, there have been improvements in the gameplay and several upgrades and downgrades in player ratings. This list reviews 10 of the best-rated forwards (CF) on the game with their key attributes highlighted.
10. Edison Cavani
Few strikers can deliver consistently at age 33, but Edison Cavani is still holding his own against the world’s best. That said, 18 league goals last season was not enough to maintain the 89 rating he earned in PES 2019. To be fair to Cavanni, Injuries did not help his case last season. While he managed a 28 goal return in 30 starts during the 2017/2018 French Ligue 1 season, his 18 goals last season came in just 20 starts. Injuries aside, Cavani is a solid player, and his 89 finishing and 88 overall are enough to make him one of the game’s best strikers.
9. Karim Benzema
Club: Real Madrid
Karim Benzema gets the upgrade he deserves with an 88 rating after a scintillating season. The French striker scored 21 league goals last season, a massive upgrade on his measly 5 league goals in the 2017/2018 season. Despite that less than ideal goal return a season back, Benzema has always been a great striker, and there are many who believe he hasn’t always been given the opportunity to be a focal point in Real Madrid’s attacks . With Cristiano Ronaldo no longer around, it does look like Benzema can finally shine again. His key stats include 87 finishing, 87 kicking power and 92 ball control.
8. Kylian Mbappe
In PES 2018, Kylian Mbappe’s rating was 83. 2 years later, the Frenchman is rated 90 with a massive 97 potential. Fresh off the back of winning a World Cup, and scoring in the final, Mbappe took the French league by storm, scoring 33 goals and setting up 7 for his teammates. Forming a successful partnership with Brazilian Neymar and Uruguayan Edison Cavani, Mbappe helped PSG clinched another Ligue 1 title. There are already talks of the Ballon d’Or and everyone expects great things to come for Mbappe, and while he may have to work harder to reach those heights, there’s no doubt he’s on the right path. His key stats include 87 finishing, 85 attacking, and 92 dribbling.
7. Harry Kane
Club: Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane earns an upgrade from 89 in PES 2019 to 90 on PES 20. This upgrade is the reward for announcing himself on the world stage as he clinched the Golden Boot award at the 2018 World Cup and led Tottenham to the Champions League final with 5 goals. For the past four seasons, Harry Kane has been in great form, picking up the Premier League Golden Boot twice. Last season, injuries limited him to just 27 league starts, but he still scored 17 league goals. When fit, Kane is world-class and a 90 rating is no less than he deserves. Amongst his best stats are 95 attacking, 91 kicking power, and 97 finishing which help make him one of the best finishers in the game.
6. Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann’s 15 league goals in the 2018/2019 league season may seem modest until you consider he was playing in a low scoring Atletico Madrid team. His performances last season were enough to retain his 90 rating and he has certainly done enough to get Barcelona to pay his €120 million release clause. With Griezmann now playing in a fluid attacking team, he’s expected to improve his goal tally and maybe even do enough to earn an upgrade next year. Upgrade or not, Griezmann is truly world-class and 90 is a befitting rating. His stats on the game include 88 finishing, 90 attacking and 92 kicking power.
5. Robert Lewandoski
Club: Bayern Munchen
Off the back of a disappointing World Cup in Russia, Robert Lewandowski got back to doing what he knows best, scoring goals! He scored 22 league goals in the 2018/2019 Bundesliga season to finish the season as top scorer. Obviously, Lewandowski can do better than 22 league goals, but he was playing in an underperforming Bayern side and was often the difference between a loss and a win. His performances were good enough to keep his 90 rating with a well-deserved 92 finishing, 91 attacking and 87 kicking power.
4. Luiz Suarez
Suarez will always be the player that divides opinions with his on-field antics, what is unquestionable is his footballing talents. In the 2015/2016 league season, Suarez scored an incredible 40 league goals to beat Ronaldo and Messi to the European Golden Shoe and the Pichichi Trophy. Since that 40 goal feat, his numbers have dropped over the past few seasons, but he’s still one of the best strikers in the world, even at the age of 32. In PES 2019 Suarez dropped from 92 to 90, however, he gets an upgrade to 91 in PES 2020. Amongst his best stats are 91 finishing, 89 attacking and 91 offensive awareness.
3. Sergio Aguero
Club: Manchester City
Aguero finally gets the upgrade he deserves as he moves from an 89 to 91 rating in PES 2020. His stats include 93 finishing, 91 attacking and 86 kicking power. Aguero is Manchester City’s all-time highest scorer and holds the record for the best goal per minute ratio since the Premier League began in 1991. What is more remarkable is that Aguero’s performances remain top class despite his injury problems. Many are of the opinion that he can score more goals if he could only remain injury-free for a whole season. Injuries aside, he scored 21 league goals last season to help Manchester City to another English Premier League title.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
At age 34, many players go to a less competitive like the Chinese Super League or the MLS, not Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese footballer spent last season winning the Italian Serie A and being named the league’s MVP. While his 21 league goals are less glamorous compared to the numbers he produced at Real Madrid, his consistency for club and country at age 34 is a feat only Lionel Messi can match. Ronaldo keeps his 94 rating on PES 2020 to stand with Messi as the game’s top two players. His stats on the game include 93 attacking, 91 finishing and 94 kicking power.
1. Lionel Messi
Now 32, many expected Lionel Messi to take his foot off the pedal, but after scoring 36 league goals last season, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen just yet. With Messi, goals don’t tell the entire story and that is reinforced by his 13 assists in La Liga last season. Messi deservedly keeps his 94 rating on PES 2020 with his 98 potential making him slightly better than Ronaldo overall. With Barcelona still dependent on his magic to win games, it doesn’t seem like Messi will rest on his laurels anytime soon. His best stats include 97 ball control, 95 offensive awareness and 95 finishing.
