In recent years, football has evolved and tactics have shifted. Speedsters are now one of the most integral part of a team, with every side possessing at least a couple of pacey wingers to run at and unsettle the oppositions defenders. With the likes of Cristiano and Neymar having dominated due to their pace and trickery, we take a look at the fastest players on FIFA 20.
10. Jürgen Damm (Tigres U.A.N.L: RM)
26-year-old Jürgen Damm may not be an expected name on this list. After all he isn’t even an established starter at Tigres despite making ten appearances (only in the starting XI, 13% of the time and playing in 21% of the total available minutes). Despite that, FIFA have recognized the pace that the 74 rated (with a potential rating 75) Mexican possesses with acceleration of 93 and sprint speed of 95. No player in the opposing team would want to see Jürgen Damm running right at them. Damm’s release clause is €10.9M and he could be a great threat off the bench for any club side.
9. Iñaki Williams Arthuer (Athletic Bilbao: ST, RW)
Iñaki Williams recently signed a new long term contract at Athletic Bilbao and it’s no surprise why. The Spaniard has a turn of pace (acceleration – 93 and sprint speed – 95) that terrifies most defenders. With 2 goals and an assist from the first ten games of the season, 82 rated Williams will be looking to kick on as the season progresses. He has an overall potential of 86 and his release clause is €63.1M
8. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal FC: ST, LM)
Ask any Premier League defender which striker they fear the most and last season’s Golden Boot winner will definitely be amongst the top answers. The clinical finisher usually uses his acceleration (93) and aprint speed (95) to beat most centre backs before his finishing (89) kicks in. At the age of 30, Aubameyang may soon lose that turn of pace so use him while you can. The 30-year-old who is rated as an 88, has a release clause of €108.3M.
7. Kensuke Nagai (FC Tokyo: ST)
Playing for FC Tokyo, 30-year-old Nagai is amongst the oldest players on this list. Despite that he has been a brilliant asset for FC Tokyo in the Japanese J1 League, where he has 8 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances. A 4-star weak foot combined with acceleration of 95 and sprint speed of 95, means defenders often struggle to catch up to him as he eases his way past them. Nagai has a release clause of €2.1M and despite his advancing years, his blistering pace up front means he’d be a decent pick up for most gamers.
6. Gelson Martins (AS Monaco: RM, RW)
Gelson Martins joined AS Monaco in the summer for a fee of about €30M after a torrid year at Atletico Madrid where he struggled to get into the first team. Already having provided 1 goal and 1 assist so far this season, Martins will be looking to use his acceleration (95) and sprint speed (95) to fire Monaco back to their lofty heights. With dribbling of 87 and curve of 82 as well as ball control of 81, opposing full backs won’t be looking forward to facing him anytime soon. Rated at 81 with a potential of 85, Martins has a release clause of €45.4M.
5. Daniel James (Manchester United: LM, LW, RM)
Despite the sky high expectations at Old Trafford for the 21-year-old Welsh winger, no one could have quite predicted just how well Daniel James would take to life at Manchester United. 3 goals and 2 assists in 10 appearances doesn’t even tell the story of the youngster whose acceleration (96) and sprint speed (95) have left opposition full backs in tatters. Coupled with dribbling (84) and ball control (73), 74 rated Daniel James (with a potential ability of 84) is a quality young speedster with a release clause of €18.9M.
4. Aníbal Chalá (Deportivo Toluca: LB, LM)
Aníbal Chalá is an unknown quantity for most FIFA gamers. Turning out for Deportivo Toluca in the Liga MX (the first tier of Mexican football), left back Chalá is one of the fastest players in the game. Already with 12 appearances and an assist this season, the 68 rated (74 potential) player has acceleration of 93 and sprint speed of 96. With the ability to run at opposing full backs and the speed needed to get back in time to defend, Chalá is a bargain with a release clause of €2.1M.
3. Leroy Sané (Manchester City: LW)
Part of the army of skillful and pacey wingers that Pep Guardiola possesses at Manchester City, Leroy Sané may just be the fastest and most skillful. The 23-year-old left winger has refined his game in recent years and under Pep is blossoming into one of the world’s best. While he is out for the rest of this season with a cruciate ligament rupture, Sané wowed critics and supporters alike last season with 10 goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League. Acceleration of 93, sprint speed of 96 and finishing of 81 show exactly why he has a high release clause of €125.1M.
2. Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint Germain: ST, RW)
It’s a surprise that Kylian Mbappé does not top this list The boy who won the World Cup with his pace, Kylian Mbappé just misses out on the the fastest player on FIFA 20. An established starter for both France and PSG, Mbappe is considered the automatic successor to the thrones currently occupied by Messi and Ronaldo. While his game may be about more than just pace (finishing – 89, dribbling – 91, ball control – 90, reactions – 89 and shot power -83), his acceleration (96) and sprint speed (96) make it near impossible for any defender to catch up to him. Rated at 89 with an overall potential rating of 95, Kylian Mbappé is one of the fastest players in the game, and one of the best too.
1. Adama Traoré (Wolverhampton Wanderers: RW, RWB)
A surprise choice for the fastest player in the game, 23 years old, Adama Traoré has always been recognized as one of the fastest players on the game. Anyone who may feel he is overrated just has to take a look at his 2 goals against Manchester City recently, to see his pace in action. Sprinting past his opposition before finishing with composure, the right winger who can also play at full back, is full of energy, and his acceleration (97) and sprint speed (96) are indicative of this. Strength (81) and dribbling (89) enhance this and Adama, whose release clause is €17.9M, is not a pleasant sight for opposing wingers or full backs.

Speedsters have always been like a cheat code in FIFA and the trend continues in the most recent edition of the video game. While the likes of Kylian Mbappe or Leroy Sane may be established household names and too expensive unless you start your career with one of the top clubs, there’s plenty of pacey attacking options willing to move to smaller clubs if you’re looking to add some speed to your side. With the extreme pace these players possess, they’d make a great addition to any team in career mode.
